The Rev. Major Gavin Robertson was ordained into the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1996 alongside his wife and ministry partner Meridyth. Together they have served at First Presbyterian Church in Trail, British Columbia for almost 25 years.  In 1998, with the blessing and encouragement of his Session, Gavin joined the Canadian Forces Primary Reserves as Chaplain to the 44 Field Engineer Squadron, which eventually became the 39 Combat Engineer Regiment.  In 2017 Gavin was appointed Brigade Chaplain to the 39 Canadian Brigade Group; he continues serving in this role which involves overseeing and supporting Military Chaplains serving units within the Brigade.  Gavin and Meridyth have two children, Megan (25) and James (23).

Call to Worship

We gather together this morning, rising from summer sleeping to sacred singing,
from weeding gardens to worshipping God,
from camping out to singing praise,
from recreation to re-creation.
We rise in the light of long summer days and gather in the light of God’s holy presence.

Election of Elders: What personal qualities are important for elders? “An elder must be a professing member of the congregation and must be ‘an example to the believers in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.” Any person who is a member of the church and who seeks to grow in Christian faith might be a suitable elder. An elder is not expected to be perfect, to have an unswerving faith, to have all the answers, or to be elderly in age! An elder receives training, learns from other elders, and grows as a Christian in the role. You might have the personal qualities to be an elder if you are: a committed Christian, you regularly participate in the life of the congregation, show a personal concern for others, have sound judgment for decision making, are a team-player, are able to give time to this role, are exemplary in conduct, are willing to learn about serving others.
