At our upcoming AGM, we will accept nominations for Board Members and at least one Trustee. The roles are noted below. The role of a Trustee requires wisdom with a dash of administrative skill. Our current Board would be blessed with the addition of people with the gifts of leadership, administration, and skilled labour. Please consider prayerfully if you may be called to share your gifts in these areas.
Trustees
“A pen in the hands of the congregation,” meaning that when a congregation makes a decision (relating to investments or the disposal of property), the trustees carry out the instructions. Routine decisions like reinvesting the principal and interest from a GIC in another such certificate do not normally require a congregational meeting. Trustee roles are outlined by the congregation's Trust Deed. The annual work described by a current trustee is as follows:
Over the course of one year, one of us would prepare a simple report of the trustee funds for the AGM report (liaising with our church treasurer). Once a year, we would meet at the CIBC branch with the investment broker and discuss what to do with GICs that come up for renewal. If the church ever needs money from the trustees, we would arrange a transfer of funds to our church treasurer.
Members of the Board of Managers
The Board of Managers serves the congregation by caring for the church’s temporal affairs. They are entrusted with the stewardship of finances, property, and practical administration so that the ministry of this congregation may flourish. While Session provides spiritual oversight and direction, the Board seeks to faithfully manage the material resources God has entrusted to the church, ensuring accountability, sustainability, and support for the mission of Christ in this place.
Board roles are outlined in "Church Matters: A Board of Managers Handbook"
